Lifeline and Link-Up Service Offerings

As part of its service offerings, Brandenburg Telephone Company offers two programs to assist qualifying low income individuals with the charges for their telephone service, Lifeline and Link-Up. These programs are part of the Federal Universal Service Fund program instituted by the Federal Communication Commission and overseen by the Universal Service Administrative Company.

Lifeline service offers a qualifying individual discounts to the costs of that individual's telephone service. Link-Up allows qualified individuals to a discount on the cost of initially ordering and installing telephone service. The current discount provided under the Company's Lifeline service is the Sum of $12.10 per month for each month that the customer qualifies. The one-time discount for Link-Up service is one-half of charges for service initialization up to $30.00

To receive these discounts, an individual must meet certain eligibility criteria such as:

  1. Medicaid
  2. Food Stamps
  3. Federal Public Housing/Section8
  4. Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  5. Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
  6. Temporary Assistance to Needy Families Program (TANF)
  7. National School Free Lunch Program(NSL

Other terms and conditions apply. For example, customers who apply for Lifeline and Link-UP service must provide document(s) required for proof of qualification. We will be required to retain and verify the continuing accuracy of the qualifying information provided by those customers. Similarly, as long as a qualified individual agrees to toll blocking, that individual is not required to pay a deposit prior to our service being offered. Conditions in our current Local Tariff filed with the Kentucky PSC also apply.
